THE ARCHETYPICAL FIGURES

Archetypical figures are universal, shared, hereditary stages of our life paths. Archetypical figures exist within every religious, mythical, folklore, fictional story and help us understand the flow. I see them as guides, helping us strengthen and fly.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Destroyer

The Ancient Greek God of the ocean, rivers, floods, droughts, earthquakes, and horses, was one of the Twelve Olympians. Known for his temper and destructive power, Poseidon is known to represent the shadow archetype.

When I think about the ocean and all these attributes Poseidon is referred to, I feel like he needs a makeover in our history books.

When I think of the ocean, I think of a powerful, all-inclusive, diverse, nurturing, mysterious, deep, calm, fierce, bright, colorful, shiny, dark, endless, queer entity. I feel like I belong to the ocean. I want to be like the ocean. So, this is my take on the ancient God Poseidon, reimagining him as a queer God/dess.
